The primary focal point of my painting is to represent nervous and what nervous means to me. When examining the painting on the guidelines of the rule of thirds, I apply the intersection point placing the lines horizontal and also the circles and triangle around the frame. The strategies that I use for this final project was light among dark and also organic among geometric. For example, the way I emphasize on the focal point was to use circles which captures light among dark. I also used organic among geometric. The way I use organic among geometric was placing triangles among circles in different directions. When observing the design, the pattern of the visual flow captures the viewer’s eyes going up then down and backup again. The elements that I use was repetition of shapes/colors /value/ texture/lines. I believe that I found my composition balance when I added different colors in my shapes that represents nervous. For example, each color in the circle balance a form of nervous dealing with dark and Light. After comparing symmetrical and asymmetrical, I would have to say that the painting represent asymmetrical because, the two different colors represent opposite. The balance in my visual weights are within my circles because, the viewers eyes hold the balance which see the opposite color. The Way the painting creates an illusion of space by using color temperatures and atmospheric perspective it feels like the circles is are moving around in many directions. The colors that I use are basic colors and then I added a hint of-white. Overall my painting has a cold temperature. I use a range of complementary colors when mixing hues of white and avoiding a hue of black. The painting is simultaneous contrast because I sat down and organized the painting.

When examining my design, I would have to say that the design I created is emotions  that I planned to convey. When put in my thoughts in the painting, it represents the way I feel sometimes nervous. By following the questions one through eight, I have convey colors with in the drawing. For example, by using basic colors and a hue of White it help me manage the shape within the painting.

The way I was unsuccessful in my art drawing was at first I combine three of the circles together and after I was done, I started to paint the project. When I went to my 2D design class, my classmates help me to understand what was missing in my painting. I realize that the circles should not be combined because it represents a bulls eye shape. One of my classmates stated that a light green in my circle and in my triangle were fading away because they both have the same colors and people could not see it as a circle anymore. When observing the painting I noticed that when combining light hues I noticed it’s very hard to fade away pencil mark. By adding different colors I believe that I  captured the meaning of nervous which represents my character.

The colors that I use to create my monochromatic color scheme were light blue and dark blue with  hues of black and white. The monochromatic in the paintings shows the concept of the colors and how the colors are pushing forward and back. It also gives an illusion of small shapes and large shapes. For example; the light blue is soft , the dark blue is bolder, but the black grabs the viewer’s attention. For my analogous  color scheme, I used  yellow, orange, and red. The reason why I picked these colors is that they represent the color pattern on my color wheel. For example, I had to blend the red and yellow to create an orange, but I added a hue of white. The reason why I added a hue of white to the orange and the red is because it gave it more of a reddish orange softer tone. For my complementary color scheme, I used the colors red and green. I could not use the hue of black for my complementary color scheme, but I added a hue of white into my green to make it brighter. The complementary color that I chose was red, and while observing the color wheel, red was paired with green and that’s how I got my color scheme for my Contemporary color.

The unsuccessful attempt for me was mixing paint colors, because I never had to blend colors before. Then I realized that painting is similar to drawing, and I found that blending the hues white or black  made a huge difference in the color contrast. The success was seeing the outcome of the painting and capturing the beauty of the colors.

When reading through the textbook and observing the project , I found the difference between the words ‘hue’ and ‘color’. For example, hue is a property of color defined by distinctions within the color wheel which are “red” , “blue”, “yellow”, and “green”. The meaning of color is what you see when light is reflected off an object . When dealing with the word tint, it means mixing a color with different amounts of white. For example, when I create a color wheel, I needed to  tint or blend some white to manufacture other elements on my color wheel. The word shade means to take a hue and  mix it with black. Complementary colors are opposites on the wheel. When combining them, you get a gray-scale color of white and black. A simultaneous contrast means two colors that affect each other. For example, a simultaneous contrast  is  the color relationship with black and white, which represents the  warm tones of grays.

When examining the self portrait , I believe that I captured a full value range that displays nine different shades of color from light to dark. When cutting down each value scale, I realized  that my pieces resembled a jigsaw puzzle. When observing each side of the picture, I noticed that the right side of the picture has a more even value then the left side. For example, I realized on the left side of the eye that there’s a bumpy flow . Instead of drawing a facial feature on the design, I displayed a value of shape on the grid while observing my photo. For example, when I traced  the shapes on different value scales, I noticed  that each shape represented a pigment of my skin color. I would say the value of creating a self portrait was that I was able to focus on the gradations of colors in my complexion. It was a huge challenge for me, because I usually use examples from the thumbnails to give me more ideas of what I’m supposed to  draw. But this time, I had to use my own imagination with the creativity of my hands. This is the reason why I felt this was more challenging for me. The good quality of this picture was that I used my own style to create a self portrait.

The primary focal point in this design is the black ink squares. When examining the drawing, each of my stamp squares are located on the top and the bottom of my page. By referring to the rules of thirds I manage to put each of my black ink stamp squares in two separate rows. When looking back in the design, I see that each box and patterns share a visual flow that activates the entire picture plane. When I was planning out my project I use two different types of materials to help show some  elements within my drawing. For example: I use a black ink pad to help make my squares stand out. The following steps I used Pitt Pen M to make the lines bold and to make sure that each of my lines were not crooked. By using the materials that I chose for my patterns, I created a type of rhythm that showcased the entire picture. For example: I put each of my boxes going down and up and connecting them with my finger. Through The viewer’s Eyes, I can see a full value range within the squares and the lines. The way I conveyed the concept was to connect center line by making them bolder. The word that I chose was rhythm because, it has a strong repeated patterns of movement. When I first started Project 8 I had some difficulty with gathering the right material. For example, when I was gathering some square pieces I started with cardboard, but it would not absorb the ink. Each time I stamped the cardboard pieces on the paper, they were very patchy and had big ink spots all over the square.

The primary focal point in the design is the diamond shape. When referring back to the rules of thirds, I place the Diamond on the far left side of the paper. When looking from a viewer’s eye, I believe that a cluster of circles stands out more because, it captures your attention because of the bold circle. When observing the design, the viewers can see that the diamond shape circles are going down however, when you’re looking at the right side you can see that the patterns are going up which leads the viewer’s eyes to the puzzle piece. By using dark and medium Pitt pens, I created a visual elements in my drawing. To establish a visual texture, I use a combination of circles, dots, lines and squares instead of making it into a pattern. When examining the collage I managed to combine each piece which created a full and high low value range. For example; I place the shape that resemble a puzzle piece on the top left. Then I place the diamond shape on the bottom left side which collided with the weave pattern which offset the line in the background which represents a wood paneling. Well I have to say that the project was really hard for me because finding texture and designing it was a rough challenge. For example; trying to combine the texture, and seeing how to layout the format was very challenging for me. But when I look back at my collage, it helped me view texture in a better way.

When looking at the design I can see that each side has a figure ground relationship because, one side shows one of the patterns are fading out and the other side showing that the pattern is representing balding. Dark represents negative space and light represents positive space. When blending the design together I created positive and negative design. The design contain half and half which represents black and white. I created my patterns from the charcoal black paper and after that I place the patterns on the white paper so I could trace them. The vision that I created was to let the viewer see the connection of the waves and leaving the other patterns in the same possession on opposite paper. When examining my design, I realized the patterns that we exchanged in class was more creative than my two patterns that I created, it made me realize that I should have sat down and try to be more creative with my patterns.

In the middle of the design, I was able to place a primary focal point of circles. By following the rules of third, I was able to establish the direction of my line and where to place the centerpiece for my focal point. In the picture plane the lines are showing a visual flow that leads the eyes up, down and also slanted to left and right. To help me capture the lines, I use two Pitt PEN ‘ S . For example; I use Pitt PEN F to establish the light side of my drawing. After I was done, on the left side I needed to use Pitt PEN B to help me establish a bolder darker element so it would captures the viewer’s eye by standing out. The ruler help me to establish a directional flow. On the left side of my design, it displays Implied lines. One side is light, and one side is dark which captures a full value range. One disappointment was that I noticed that my lines were not as neat as in my sketchbook.

When looking at the far left of my project, I can see the beginning of the focal points by using Pitt PEN B which captures the bold print. According to the rule of thirds, the lines are flowing downwards to capture the focal point. When examining my dynamics in the project, I can see that the bottom has more of a visual flow then the top. As I stated before the directional lines are to my far left which makes the flow go down. When looking at line one it represents invisibility. The reason why I chose invisibility is because, the lines are open and not close and it feels as though I’m looking at a mirror. When examining line two it represents excitement. The reason why I chose excitement, it feels like I’m riding on a roller coaster. For example; it looks like the mouth is opening at the top and the bottom is closed which makes me feel like I’m riding through a roller coaster. When examining line three it represents fear. For example; the line shape feel like a serpent swing by going to the top. When drawing the designs I use various objects that would help me to create the lines. By using the visual flow of long, short and bold lines, it helped to define space. One of my downfalls was that I could not use various shapes in my designs. I had to use items that had no obvious shape therefore it allowed me to be more creative as well as more visual.

My design has twelve images and I believe that it does capture a picture plane. Basically, the iron gate represents different shapes and patterns within itself. For example, I notice that the gates have patterns that represent squares, ovals and hearts  that will captures the focal point view. While looking at the patterns in the design, I see that each of my pictures goes up and down, and sideways. By looking towards the picture frame, I can see a visual flow in the patterns. For example, each of my pictures has a different pattern. The gate also represents colorful pictures which  have significant values. Overall when examining my pictures, I notice that the balance in the grid comes from the raw iron gate which is the foundation. From the very beginning, I used different images to which  I could not find a connection. For example, when putting together the images of the tools, I could not  find a focal point, so I realized that I needed new image.  Therefore,I used the gate as the focal point in the grid in my project.

The emphasis and focal points in my project, the ones that captured my eyes came from the handout called “Some Ways to Create  a Focal Point”. The choice I made is curve among straight. On the left hand side of my project, my lines are wide and bold; it captures the attention of the viewer’s eyes. It  divides the lines horizontally and vertically. It uses “the rule of the third” and “how to create a focal point” by bringing more depth towards the left of my design. By looking at the patterns, the visual flow moves up, down, and straight across the whole page. I believe that the texture of the elements gives an equal flow. While examining my patterns, I would have to say that the success of the composition  does not utilize repetition of shapes but  successfully focuses on lines. The Pitt pen represents both quality and thickness within the drawing. It also captures lightness and darkness dealing with the values. The success that I achieved was finding how to do a focal point while drawing in a new style. In my design, I wish I had captured more shapes. If I had more shapes, I would have more details in the pattern that would capture the viewer’s eyes.
